As people get older, the hair become more limp and full. The shortness of the hair makes it easier to manage, and keeps it from looking too thin and limp.

well as a 40 yr old that used to have waist length hair and now I have not quite shoulder length hair, I think over the years, you just get sick of it being long, at least I did, then I just started going shorter and shorter, and I simply like it alot better. it's more comfortable and I can do more things with it. long hair just gets boring after a while. that's my reason anyway...

They buy into the fact that as you get older you cannot wear your hair long which is so not true!!. Personally speaking I am 49 and would NEVER have short hair. You have to be age appropriate in your hairstyle otherwise you look ridiculous...like you are trying to be 20 not 50!!!

When I was a teenager my hair was really long but in college I started cutting it a bit shorter. Right now, at 29 years old, if my hair is touching my shoulders, it's too long. I usually wear my hair in a layered bob. Longer hair is harder to take care of and can be unruly. Unless you can keep it very neat, long hair gives the appearance of the person being unprofessional and unkempt. Shorter hair looks more polished and makes it appear that you spend time on the upkeep that goes along with keeping it shorter. I am on break at work and I took a look around my immediate office and no woman has hair longer than their shoulders. We are all between out late 20's to early 30's and in sales so our image is an important asset to our careers.

Supposedly, the shorter cuts make them look younger. But I tend to disagree. For the older women, they may have trouble keeping their orms up over their head in order to fuss over their hair. It would be unfair to assume that they don't want to care for long tresses. And it would be unfair to assume that they would capable of working on their hair for the amount of time it takes someone younger to do their hair.

I have MS and Fibromyalgia AND 41. It is very difficult and painfull to have my arms up over my head to fuss with my hair. But my hair stretches down to my bottom. So don't be fooled by stereotyping older people with shorter hair.

Because it's easier to care for. Especially older women, many have had longer hair for many years but have become more concerned with ease of care than style.
