cut it to about your shoulder. Get a side bang and if you can get light brown highlights. you could gut it a little bit below that and do the same thing... and then you can curl it. You can also get it thinned so you won't have wads of hair sticking out. I'm not saying you do...but its a possibility. How short you should cut it?? I think you have to check with the people you are going to donate it to... they need a specific length to work with. And before you cut if off, have your daughter wear a wig the same lenght that she will have it so it won't be so dramatic on her not having the hair she is used to having.

Since she's never really had a short hair do it's probably best to consult with her before deciding on how short you should go. I mean some adults still get traumatize when they get a hair cut that is shorter than what they expect and ends up regretting it. For a child it might be worse? Your daughter wants to do something so amazing for a child to think about. Be very proud of her, and remind her and anyone else who complains about the cutting that it is hair and will grow back. Call the organization you want to give her hair to. They sometimes have guidelines on how long they want the donated hair. I believe it's about 10 inches. I think with your babies on the way that a short hair cut for your daughter may just give you an easier time than brushing all that hair. Maybe a cut that's to the shoulders, if you want could have it flip when you had time to dress her up, or just long enough to pull it into a short ponytail. I always had my daughters hair pulled up for school because of the threat of lice. Good luck with everything you have got going on.

Try Locks of Love. I think the recommend at least 10 inches. I would only cut off what you need to. She may be a bit shocked by anything really short. I am guessing you could cut it at her shoulders and have approx 10 inches. If you find you only need 7-8 inches, then only cut that much. I would look into the program you wish to send it to first to be sure you are cutting enough for their needs.

Hey, I feel your pain. My friend had the same exact problem!! For such a long time her dad wouldn't let her cut her hair. It was down to her butt too!!!! Here's what you should do:

1. Sit down and talk to your mom. If you and your mom argue a lot (like me and mine) then make sure that you are calm, collected, and act like you want to really talk seriously to her. Tell her your honest feelings, BUT NICELY!!!!!!!!!!!! If I were you I would say something like, Mom, I respect your opinion about my hair, but after all, it is MY hair. If you wanted to change the style of yours then I wouldn't tell you you couldn't. Having my hair down to my butt is a real pain and I think that I deserve to cut it. I'm not going to cut it super short, but I just want my hair really pretty, yet still long. PLEASE consider it.

2. Maybe in a couple days bring it back up. This way it gave her time to think.

My friend did this and within a week her parents allowed her to get it cut.

It's not as if you're asking for a tattoo or a piercing or something, book an appointment at a local hair salon and just go and get it cut.

Preferably, find a picture of a haircut you really, really like and show that to your mum so she knows exactly what you or a hairdresser plans to do.

The longer the better; I think a couple inches above the elbow would look really nice, or if you're brave even to mid-back, that way it'll still be long hair but it will be much, much easier to care for and won't get in the way nearly as much as before.

I'm sure 75% of people who get their hair cut into a different style hate it. I work at a hair salon and I've seen it many times...I even hate my hair when I first get it cut. You're going to want to give it a week or two in order for it to grow a tiny bit and lay right. Hairstyles almost NEVER look great right after you get it done. After you've had them for a short while, they fall right into place and look great. That's why I hate after I get my hair done from the salon and it looks amazing...then I wash it a day or two later and try to style it on my own. It looks like CRAP!!! After a while I fall in love with it.

Don't know how your money situation is, but there are hair pieces you can buy to add on to your existing hair. They don't make your head sweat like a wig and cost less. You could also wear a bandanna or hat until the hair either grows out or you find a suitable style that you like.

The best way to find the best products for your hair is to try them all. That would be pretty expensive but go over to a friends house and use some of her stuff. See how it works, and just keep trying new things. Hair may work with products from this company and not that company....it's all trial and error.

If I can suggest something, I would suggest you try a hot oil treatment....for a cheaper way to have great soft and silky hair with less frizzies, warm up some olive oil (regular cooking stuff) in the microwave and massage it into your hair while it is dry. Wrap it up in a warm towel from the drier and sit for an hour or so. Maybe give yourself a facial at the same time. Then get in the shower, and shampoo out all the oil (because water won't get the oil out--oil and water don't mix) and then condition your hair. Viola! Beautiful silky hair.

The most key thing to protecting your locks is to stay away from all heat. Yep, that means no hairdrier, no straightner, no curling iron either....It's very hard not to advert to these products but just try it for a week. Don't blow dry your hair for a week....try it. I know it's hard not to but if you stay away from things with heat such as blow driers, curling irons, straightners, etc....you will notice a HUGE change in the feel and look of your hair. It will be so much more healthy.

if you have "long" thick hair you can purchase thinning sheers, go to your local salon or beauty supply and they should be able to help you, maybe get someone to do it fo you. the thinning sheers removes the bulkiness. also try doing a search on thinning sheers. hope that helps!

I like it shorter. It looks way fuller, and just generally healthier. shorter is always better, there are less split ends, it doesn't get as oily, and you can keep it down way more. With long hair, it doesn't look as good.

I cut my nails when I'm stressed so I know where you're coming from. It's not a good idea to change your hair style dramatically when you're not feeling good about yourself. Take a good cure of magnesium first. It's good for combatting stress.

my hair is pretty long now, the longest it's been, a bit past my boobs with side bangs and long layers, ive been growing it out for about 7 months. im getting it trimmed/cut/whatever you want to call it on saturday, and i really like that "scene/fashion" mullet thing for girls where the layers are cut short and the one layer is still long, creating volume at the crown. the thing is, i have think hair that everyone tends to be jealous of and it's one of my favorite features, so i dont think getting my layers cut that drastically would really be my thing right now :/ so what should i do, i love the big hair look, but my layers right now are too long to really tease them, and when i do they dont stay that way for long. should i just get my top layers cut A BIT and see how i like it or what? any suggestions? thanks

if you do decide to have the short layer cut be careful as some hairdressers realy go to town with the razor and if you want to grow it out it will take for ever. If you do get this cut make sure you get it cut with scissors not razor you get same shape result but no tears afterwards.

It's hard to judge without seeing your face, but in my experience those who are heavier usually look better with long hair and those who are skinnier can usually pull off short hair pretty well. I think it comes down to what you'd feel most comfortable with, because I'm sure either way you'd look fine. As for attractiveness, different guys prefer different things.

I think you should look at other people and see whose hair looks really good and ask them who is their stylist and go in and ask them what they think. That is what I did. My stylist took my dull colored frizzy hair and turned it into healthy and beautiful. I would follow my stylist to timbucktoo if I had to. You could always get a few stylists opinions from different shops and go with the majority. There is somewhere online that you can download your picture and pick different hair styles and see how they look on you. If you do decide to cut look into giving you hair to locks of love. Helps children with cancer have wigs. Need at least 10 in of cut hair. Make sure you put it in a ponytail before you cut it.

My stylist cut mine off after a relaxer/color disaster. This was almost a year ago. I get SO many compliments on it, not just from friends but strangers as well (mainly men).

I am in the gym a lot and I run 3-4 days a week. Short hair could not be better for these activities!

I don't have any pictures but dont go too short because if you want to leave it down then it won't look to good. You should just keep it long but tell your hairdresser to do two levels, a shorter level then a bottom level, even do a cute sweep bang. You can do so many things with it. It looks good straightened, up, down, EVERYTHING. But a tip to make your curly hair look nice, try gloss drops and apply to the ends every week or so. Also try Frizz Serums. Another way to style it is to put a little "puff" with the front of your hair and bangs with bobby pins, then put the gloss drops in and add a little hairspray, it looks CUTE and it's easy and quick! Just don't cut it short, it will look like an AFRO! =D

Did you know that there are organizations that would love to have your locks? Talk to a hairdresser, and see what the requirements are...I have several friends that do it for the good of the people...

I looked one up for you...

Locks of Love "is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children 18 years and younger suffering from long-term medical hair loss." If you're interested in donating your hair for this worthy cause, here are the guidelines:

1. We accept 10" minimum hair length (tip to tip), not wigs, falls, or synthetic hair

2. Please bundle hair in ponytail or braid.

3. Hair needs to be clean, dry, placed in a plastic bag, then padded envelope.

4. We need hair from men and women, young and old, all colors and races.

5. Hair may be colored or permed, but not bleached or chemically damaged (if unsure, ask your stylist).

6. Hair swept off the floor is not usable.

7. Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or braid.

8. Hair that is short, gray, or unsuitable for children will be separated from the ponytails and sold at fair market value to offset the cost of manufacturing.

9. You may pull curly hair straight to measure the minimum 10".

10. The majority of all hair donated comes from children who wish to help other children.

11. Layered hair may be divided into multiple ponytails for donation.

12. Please note: Anyone can cut your hair as long as the above guidelines are followed.

As for styling products, Fructis has a fabulous line to give you great curls. First shampoo and condition with Fructis Curl %26amp; Shine. If you've got dry hair or split ends, I reccommend using Fructis 3 minute conditioning treatment as well. Towel dry and gently comb/pick through hair. Work in Fructis Curl %26amp; Shine Leave-In Conditioning Cream. Comb again. Then use a small amount of Fructis Soft Curls (its this waxy cream in a round tub). Rub into hands and work into hair. Flip over your head and scrunch it up with a towel. Flip back over and blow dry on low or cool while scrunching small sections. Dry it partly and let rest air dry naturally. Finish with Fructis Curl %26amp; Shine hairspray. Voila!!!

All the Fructis products are about $2-$5 at any supermarket/drugstore/etc. And they leave your hair in impecible condition because they use so little alcohol in their products.

I am a native american with thick hair. I like cutting it short in the summer and longer in the winter, both times with layers. My hair looks bulky and weighed down if I don't get layers. I also like highlights but the last time i got those, they seemed to close and not spread out enough. Now my hair looks too light on the top, and too dark on the bottom. I just cut my hair and donated 13 inches of it to locks of love. Its pretty short, now about neck length. My hair is wavy and I usually blow dry/straighten it.
