I am African American, and I noticed that when my hair was relaxed I got so much more attention from males, but when I cut it short and wore it natural.. very few males approached me. Well, I have had it natural since Feb. and yesterday I just could not take the pressure of how people recieved me and straightened. I feel so horrible bc I have allowed others' opinions to run my life. Well, now that it is relaxed I am feeling horrific and I am thinking about waiting for some new growth and chopping it off once again. It was so much easier to care for when it was really short. When I say short, I don't mean like a fade or anything I mean like 2 inches. What would you do? I have a very feminine face, and can wear my hair short, but I feel as if no men will like me because of it. I am also curvy, so I don't have the problem with looking like a man. *pics on yahoo 360*
Does it make me any less of a woman to wear my hair short?
Hair doesn't make you more or less of a woman. You can wear a buzz and be more feminine than a female that is wearing a long curly weave. The problem is now it is in so many men and women minds that to be beautiful means have long luxurious hair going down your back. Be yourself and do what makes you comfortable. Maybe the attention you were getting before wasn't good attention. Girl do your thing and be yourself.

No, it definately does not make you any less of a woman if you have short hair. Many women now wear short hair. If you feel that you still look like a man with short hair, you could dye your hair, if you felt the need for it.

I wore my hair just about the way you described for several years. (I have since grown it long again, but still no relaxer since 1991 and am never going back. I am right now considering locks.) I know exactly what you are talking about. People--family, friends, hairdressers, complete strangers--seem so distressed over our unwillingness to fry our hair with chemicals instead of just wearing it in the way that it comes out of our heads.
My best advice to you is to stay strong about how YOU feel about your hair care and your appearance. If you like it short and natural, go back to that. If men don't approach you, congratulations, you have found a way to weed out the superficial ones who can't handle a little originality. When I had my hair short, I heard a number of men talk about how they would only date a woman who had long, straight hair. I said that was fine, I would only date men who looked at the woman inside and weren't brainwashed by our society's ideals of beauty. Good luck!

I dont think short hair make you less of a woman. In a study men typically do respond to women with long hair more than with very short hair. I say if you like it thats all that matters. If a man cant accept you the way you like to be and the way you like your hair he's not the man for you!

Short hair can still be very sexy, if it's just styled the right way. Look at Hally Berry, Natalie Portman, or Kirsten Dunst.

I HAVE MY HAIR SHORT. AND BESIDES NATURAL OR PERM IT DOESN"T MATTER WHAT PEOPLE THINK IT"S HOW THE STYLE MAKES YOU FEEL. DON"T LOSE SLEEP OVER THIS. I WEAR MY HAIR CURLED OR I JUST MOUSSE IT. IF THEY FEEL THE LOOK MAKES ME LOOK MANISH, THAT"S THEY"RE PROBLEM. BESIDES ARE THEY GONE TO STYLE YOUR HAIR FOR YOU EVERYDAY WHEN YOU WAKE UP. LIVE YOUR LIFE FOR YOURSELF NOT OTHER PEOPLE

Let's break this down a little...you - technically are not letting "people" run your life......!! You prefer the attention that you get from people (men) when your hair is longer....BUT...you don't want the maintenence...that's okay. Look at it like this.......you are one of the lucky ladies that can wear your hair short or long and be beautiful....I personally do not think that woman with short hair LOOKS like a man...or any less of a woman for that matter.
Do what makes you happy...you only live once!!!

girl, welcome to the club...i know that a lot of the community tends to be concerned about how our hair is displayed...but it's just hair and if people are really that petty as to be evaluating your hair as opposed to your personality, then they are not worth your time...do as you please and let the chips fall where they may..peace!

No, it does not make you any less of a woman. As long as you like it, then there's no problem. You shouldn't have to live up to other people's standards. I can't explain why less men have approached you since you cut it short, but just because your hair is short, it doesn't make you a different person. You're still you and if people think of you any differently because of that then that's their problem. They should like you for who you are, not what you look like. You're very well a woman and will always be one! Be proud!

No it doesn't make you less of a woman. I cut my hair short all the time, a while I have never had my hair natural, I have seen a lot of women that look really good like that. You have to be comfortable with it though, regardless you shouldhold your head high like you are the it. Then I'm wondering did you cut your hair for male attention or for yourself. To be honest, I get more male attention when my hair is cut short. Good louck with your decision, but I think you should keep it natural, its easier to care for and healthier.

I'm a guy and I love short hair on women. My wife has short hair and I like it that way. You go girl , it's your hair! Please don't let others opinions ruin your life.
