How to cut my own hair?

I'd like to know how to cut my own hair to save myself money and time. I am a guy with mid-length hair and wanting to get short hair (not shaved). I know people that do it without scissors and anything else besides and electric shaver, and it turns out just fine. An electric shaver is all I have and plan to use. If anyone could give me instructions or link me to a site where I can get some (preferably step by step, picture illustrated instructions), I'd greatly appreciate it.

Without instructions, I was just planning to set my shaver to about the 5th setting and just run it all through my hair in every direction. Dont know if that would look ok or not.

I got no were with trying to find instructions on the web. There were some that charged money for tapes/cd's. Find a girl that you know that can cut hair and get yourself a pair of sissors. An electric shaver will end up with a buzz style no matter how you do it.
